Link to Annotated Bibliography example
Don't panic -- as I mentioned in my email, we're moving things around and your annotated bibliography isn't due until Monday. Just wanted to put up the link to a good example from another WMU instructor.

No Class Tuesday 11/29 -- AM & PM
I'm flying out to a funeral in Virginia, so there will be no class Tuesday. I'll send you an email with more details regarding the assignment and possibly make another blog post.
EDIT: If you're signed up with Western, I THINK you should also get some sort of text message in the next day or so - odds are, there will not be a sign on the classroom.
Take advantage of this time! Research! See you all Thursday.

Heads up
Hi everybody --
Just a preliminary note that we may have some scheduling issues this coming week. I've got some family stuff that I need to attend to if at all possible. Keep an eye on this blog and your email and I'll try to give you as much notice as possible.

Tuesday 11/22 -- Library Day
Hi everybody --
Just a reminder that we're meeting on Tuesday in Classroom A on the main floor of Waldo Library. Just walk straight back from the main entrance into the main part of the library. You'll pass the reference desk, the rest rooms, and the stairway, and the classroom is right across from the elevator.
Hopefully you've been thinking about/investigating topics that you might want to look into for this final paper. The librarian working with us will show you some tools, and there will be time to start researching, collect resources and ask questions.
See you all there.

A really, really interesting ad campaign. A more interesting reaction.

the Consumerist -- links
So, one thing I forgot to mention when I played you guys that Chipotle ad that Brian found was that it led me somewhere else pretty interesting. If you check out the clip, it references that this was linked to from The Consumerist (click on the text to get there). I didn't know what that was, so I checked it out -- and now I'm going to try to force you to. :)
If you want to know more about them, check out the About section at the bottom of the page. In brief, they're a consumer advocacy group associated with Consumer Reports and don't accept any advertising.
It's an interesting contrast with the Adbusters site. I encourage you to explore it, but one thing I want to point you to is the Badvertising section.
You can find a lot of good stuff here, so look around a bit. The "worst ad in america" poll (this page has links to the nominees) is pretty funny, though I apparently like some of the ones most people find more annoying -- like falcons!
The article that discusses advertising in schools seems like something that ties in with our discussion of "Why Are We Dressing...", particularly the part that alludes to "colonizing" every aspect of girls. You can also find a link to the American Apparel contest I mentioned briefly.
So look around, and if you find something interesting that you'd like to discuss in class, bring it in.

Ads/Women/Girls
There was passing mention of this ad campaign in our last reading.
